Swordplay Zine is a digital zine published quarterly on Gumroad.
Submission Guidelines
• PLEASE READ THE PRIVACY POLICY BELOW!
• All types of writing welcome - poetry prioritised
• Prose: ideally 1000 words, maximum 2000.
• Word Doc or PDF via email
• No hate speech/illegal stuff
• Previously published is ok if you have copyright and tell us where it was first published.
• Comics - up to 3 A4 pages
• Art work/photography - up to 2 A4 pages
• Images must be 300dpi PNG/Tiff/PDF
• Mostly SFW content please - the occasional swear/sex reference/nipple is fine but no porn or explicit material.
• Multiple subs considered at Ed’s discretion.
Please note that we accept subs from UK/EUROPE ONLY at this time
Please send the following details along with your submission:
• The name/credit you would like printed in the zine - this can be a pseudonym.
• The title of your work
• Any social media/websites you wish to share.
• A one sentence bio (optional)
If selected for publication you agree to the inclusion of your work on our Wix website, Instagram and Gumroad. You also agree to be included in print in our annual anthology, if possible.
Money Stuff
⁃ There is no financial compensation for contributors.
⁃ Donations received will be put towards running costs and developing our annual printed anthology.
Privacy Notice
We are based in the UK and seek to comply with GDPR.
By sending us a submission you enter into a contract for us to process your personal data.
You also confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and based in the UK/Europe.
You also confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the terms of this privacy agreement.
Personal data is information that can make it possible to find out your identity. This includes information such as your real name, address, postal address or telephone number. Information that is not directly related to your real identity (such as preferred websites or number of users of a website) is not included.
We only collect and process the data you send us - this includes the email address you use to send your submissions, anything you choose to share in your bio and your social media/website details. We do not knowingly collect any data from users under 13 years of age. We will not sell your data or send you spam.
We will hold your information only for as long as needed to carry out our contract (aka review subs and make the zine).
You can ask us to get rid of your personal data at any time. Your rights as a data subject are explained here: https://gdpr-info.eu/chapter-3/
We will endeavour to keep your data safe. Your information is held in password protected hardware or accounts (see below for list of sites/tools we use) accessed by the following two people:

Third party websites that we use and link to may collect your data and these are outside of our control - please check their individual privacy/cookie policies. This includes:
- Canva (designing and producing the magazine)
- Outlook (correspondence - we previously used Gmail)
- Instagram (social media)
- Gumroad (e-commerce platform)
- Wix (our website host)
- Curator Space (project management/submissions)
- Dropbox (file transfer)
The data they collect may include your IP address for location purposes but this should be anonymous and contain no further identifying information.
